Jaguar’s Electric Reset

Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01 in New York, introducing an all-electric four-door grand tourer that will become the most powerful and technologically advanced production car in the British marque’s history.

The world premiere on 6 October opened a new chapter for Jaguar, which is preparing to reposition itself as an exclusively electric luxury brand under parent company JLR.
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain, the Type 01 will enter production in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull plant using the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).

The new grand tourer produces up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds.
Its 850-volt electrical system works with a 118kWh usable battery that Jaguar estimates will deliver up to 400 miles (644km) of driving range under the US Environmental Protection Agency cycle.
With 350kW DC rapid charging, the Type 01 can recover up to 200 miles (321km) of driving range in as little as 13 minutes. The figures remain subject to final certification and will vary with operating conditions.
Jaguar has retained several design elements associated with its celebrated sports cars, including a long bonnet, low roofline and sweeping silhouette. The company cites the E-Type and XJS among the models that influenced the new grand tourer’s character.

“The Type 01 is the foundation of this British brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to create objects of desire, just as it was in the days of the E-type and XJS,” said Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover.
The unveiling featured digital displays across Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side before the car arrived at STORIED in West Chelsea for an exclusive gathering.

British actress Florence Pugh was introduced as Jaguar’s first brand ambassador for its new era, while singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro performed during the event.
British manufacturing investment
Production of the Type 01 will involve several JLR facilities in Britain.
Electric drive units and battery packs will be manufactured in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from Halewood in Merseyside. Final assembly will take place in Solihull, where preparations for production are already at an advanced stage.
JLR said nearly 9,000 employees at Solihull have undergone retraining for electric vehicle production, alongside another 1,500 workers across its West Midlands operations.

The project is supported by JLR’s five-year investment program of £15 billion to £18 billion announced in 2024. The company said it has already invested £11.5 billion in the engineering, design and manufacturing of its next-generation vehicles, with most of the spending directed toward Britain.
JLR Chief Executive PB Balaji described the Type 01 as an important part of the company’s growth plans and its continuing investment in British automotive manufacturing.

The manufacturer is seeking double-digit growth over the next five years, with Jaguar serving the all-electric luxury segment while Range Rover, Defender and Discovery continue to provide a choice of combustion, hybrid and battery-electric powertrains.
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are scheduled to open in early 2027, with initial customer deliveries expected in the second half of that year.
Prices are expected to start at £130,000 in Britain and $130,500 in the United States.
Jaguar has not provided Philippine pricing or a local launch schedule in its announcements.
