Motorcycle sales regain traction

Philippine motorcycle sales rebounded in the third quarter of 2026, with members of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) reporting an 8.1-percent increase following a decline in the previous quarter.

Sales reached 524,860 units from July to September, compared with 485,690 units in the same period last year.

The recovery lifted cumulative sales for the first nine months to 1,464,388 units, an increase of 5.1 percent from 1,392,744 units a year earlier.

September recorded the highest monthly sales volume so far this year, with stronger results in August and September helping the industry recover from a difficult second quarter.

The motorcycle market opened 2026 with an 11.6-percent increase in first-quarter sales before contracting by 4.2 percent in the second quarter.

Automatic motorcycles continued to account for the largest share of sales, representing approximately 73.6 percent of total third-quarter volume among MDPPA members.

MDPPA President Erwin Estrada described the recovery as an encouraging development, particularly after the stronger performance recorded during the final two months of the quarter.

“This renewed momentum gives us confidence as we enter the final quarter, and we remain optimistic that the industry is on track to reach its sales targets by the end of 2026,” Estrada said.

MDPPA represents four major motorcycle manufacturers in the Philippines: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.

Apart from monitoring industry performance, the association promotes road safety through programs such as Tropang MAALAM, which provides rider education and safety awareness training.
