CAMPI sees xEVs capture 34.5% of August market despite sales dip

Electrified vehicles captured more than a third of Philippine vehicle sales in August, even as the wider market slowed sharply after severe weather disrupted dealership operations and consumer activity.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) accounted for an estimated 34.5 percent of total industry sales during the month, the second-highest share recorded this year after April’s 37.2 percent.

The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported combined August sales of 29,611 units. Including estimates from other brands, nationwide sales reached 34,390 units.

The CAMPI-TMA tally fell 20.7 percent from July’s 37,319 units and was 18.1 percent below August 2025. Their January-to-August sales also dropped 11.1 percent to 271,336 vehicles from 305,381 a year earlier.

Electrified vehicles moved in the opposite direction.

CAMPI-TMA members sold 45,403 xEVs in the first eight months, up 146.2 percent from 18,439 units in the same period last year. BEV sales jumped 293 percent to 12,883 units, while PHEVs climbed more than fourteenfold to 8,756. HEV sales rose 62.9 percent to 23,764 units.

CAMPI estimates that the broader Philippine market sold about 74,600 electrified vehicles from January through August, more than double the level recorded a year earlier.

Total industry sales, including estimates for brands outside the CAMPI-TMA reporting group, reached about 300,550 units through August.

Toyota Motor Philippines remained the largest CAMPI-TMA seller in August with 14,594 units, equivalent to 49.29 percent of member sales. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines followed with 3,570, while Suzuki Philippines sold 1,350. Honda Cars Philippines recorded 1,097 and Ford sold 930.

CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said the August decline appeared to be a temporary disruption rather than a change in the market’s direction, with the group expecting sales to recover as conditions normalize toward year-end.
