Honda hits 10 million

Honda Philippines Inc. has produced its 10-millionth motorcycle, more than five decades after the company began local manufacturing in Parañaque.

The milestone unit was a Click125 Smart Edition in Pearl Arctic White. It rolled off the production line at HPI’s manufacturing plant in Batangas, where company officials and employees marked the achievement.

HPI started producing motorcycles in May 1973. The company moved to its current Batangas factory in April 2006, shortly after cumulative production passed one million units in February 2005.

Production reached two million units in April 2008 and rose to five million by September 2016. HPI recorded its six-millionth motorcycle in January 2019 before hitting seven million units in August 2022.

The pace increased over the next four years. Production passed eight million units in April 2024 and nine million in August 2025, followed by the latest milestone in September 2026.

The Click125 has contributed to HPI’s output for the domestic and export markets. Honda positioned the automatic scooter as a model for everyday travel, while the new Smart Edition adds updated features to the range.

HPI credited its customers, dealers and suppliers for helping the company reach the production mark. It also recognized generations of employees who have worked across its manufacturing operations.

“This milestone of 10 million units was not achieved by Honda Philippines alone,” HPI president Takeshi Kobayashi said.

“It was made possible by our customers who have trusted Honda, our dealers who deliver our products and services to customers every day, our suppliers and partners who support our business and production, and generations of associates who have put their pride and passion into every motorcycle we make.”

Kobayashi said HPI would continue contributing to employment and skills development while supporting the growth of the local motorcycle industry.

Minoru Kato, executive managing officer of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., said the milestone could serve as the starting point for HPI’s next stage of growth.

He noted that riders increasingly expect motorcycles to deliver greater value in daily use, with safety, convenience and environmental considerations influencing their choices.

Koji Sugita, senior vice president of motorcycle business at Asian Honda Motor Co. Ltd., also described HPI as an important part of Honda’s production and supply operations across Asia and Oceania.

The comments point to a broader role for the Philippine subsidiary within Honda’s regional motorcycle network. HPI supplies models to Filipino riders while supporting exports to other markets.

The 10-million-unit mark comes three years after HPI celebrated the 50th anniversary of its motorcycle production operations in May 2023.

HPI said it plans to strengthen its manufacturing operations as it prepares for further growth in the Philippine motorcycle market.
