Toyota Tamaraw Powers Growth

Toyota Motor Philippines said the Next Generation Tamaraw became a key contributor to its manufacturing and sustainability performance in 2025, its first full year in the local market.

The Tamaraw captured 36 percent of the pure commercial vehicle market and secured the top position in the light commercial vehicle segment, according to TMP’s 2026 Sustainability Report.

TMP invested P5.5 billion in the vehicle’s production, parts localization and conversion capabilities. The program created opportunities for local designers, engineers, parts suppliers and vehicle body builders.

The addition of the completely knocked-down Tamaraw to TMP’s local production line also supported employment and raised the use of locally sourced parts across the automotive supply chain.

“The Tamaraw is one of our major means in creating and adding new value for both our internal and external stakeholders, from the upstream to downstream,” TMP president Masando Hashimoto said.

“As we further navigate a dynamic automotive landscape, our long-term goal is to strengthen our role as a dedicated partner in Philippine nation-building through local manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable mobility,” he added.

TMP produced a record 63,803 CKD vehicles in 2025 through the continued assembly of the Vios, Innova and Tamaraw. The result raised the company’s cumulative Philippine production to more than 1.18 million vehicles by the end of the year.

Purchases from domestic suppliers reached P17 billion in 2025. TMP also distributed P283.83 billion in economic value, which included P43.13 billion in taxes and duties from its local operations.

Toyota Group suppliers in the Philippines generated about $1 billion in automotive parts export sales during the year. This accounted for 27 percent of the country’s total automotive parts exports.

Around 12 percent of those sales passed through Toyota Motor Philippines Logistics Inc., the company’s export unit that connects locally produced parts and components with Toyota’s international supply chain.

The Tamaraw also widened its role among local government units and micro, small and medium enterprises through body configurations suited to business and public-service requirements.

Its range has grown from three initial body styles to six configurations under TMP’s in-house conversion program. The additions include an ambulance, telecommunications van and race vehicle.

Seven other body styles are offered through outside conversion specialists and can be ordered through Toyota dealerships.

TMP has engaged seven local body builders, including Globalmaxx Manufacturing Corp., Autovention Corp. and Almazora Motors Corp. Their conversion work covers vehicles such as food trucks, patrol units and the newly registered modern public utility vehicle.

TMP also expanded its electrified vehicle range in 2025 with the Toyota ATIV hybrid electric vehicle and the bZ4X, Toyota’s first battery electric vehicle offered in the Philippines.

The company sold 19,516 electrified vehicles during the year, up 39 percent from 2024.

Its Santa Rosa manufacturing plant continued to use electricity sourced entirely from renewable energy. TMP said this allowed the facility to avoid carbon dioxide emissions associated with purchased electricity.

The automaker also worked with suppliers, logistics partners and dealers to lower emissions across its value chain in line with Toyota’s global carbon-neutrality target.

TMP continued its environmental programs through the All Toyota Green Wave Project and its partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources under the Tamaraw Conservation Program.

The Green Wave Project targets the planting of one million trees by 2030 to help restore forests, rehabilitate coastal ecosystems and support biodiversity.

Under the Tamaraw Conservation Program, TMP provided vehicles and equipment to the Bantay Tamaraw Rangers and the program office in Mindoro. The assistance supports patrol, monitoring and conservation work for the endangered species.
