VinFast Lowers Electric Riding Barriers

Published

on

VinFast is highlighting lower upfront costs, battery swapping and water-resistant powertrains as key selling points for its electric motorcycles two months after their Philippine launch.

The Vietnamese electric vehicle maker entered the local two-wheel market in July and opened 21 dealerships in one day. Its initial lineup consists of the Evo, Feliz II and Viper.

VinFast offers a battery subscription plan that allows customers to buy the motorcycle without paying the full cost of the battery upfront. Monthly subscriptions start at P439.

The arrangement reduces the initial price of the motorcycle while giving riders access to battery warranty coverage throughout the subscription period. VinFast handles battery maintenance under the plan.

Upfront cost has long been one of the barriers to electric motorcycle adoption. The subscription option could appeal to riders who rely on motorcycles for daily transport or work but are unwilling to absorb the higher purchase price commonly associated with electric models.

VinFast is also developing battery swapping as an alternative to conventional charging. Riders can exchange a depleted battery for a charged unit at designated stations instead of waiting for it to recharge.

The system could reduce downtime for delivery riders and other users who spend long hours on the road. It also transfers responsibility for battery condition and maintenance to VinFast.

However, the convenience of the service will depend on the availability and location of swap stations as the company expands its Philippine network.

Weather protection is another part of VinFast’s pitch. The Evo, Feliz II and Viper use IP67-rated powertrains, which provide protection against dust and temporary water immersion under specified test conditions.

The rating offers an added layer of protection during heavy rain and on wet roads, two common concerns among local motorcycle users. It does not remove the need for riders to assess road conditions and avoid unsafe flood depths.

VinFast is positioning the subscription and swapping systems as parts of a broader ownership setup rather than stand-alone motorcycle features. The approach separates the cost and care of the battery from the purchase of the unit itself.

The Evo, Feliz II and Viper are available through VinFast E-Motorcycle Philippines dealerships and authorized dealers nationwide.
