Green SM Goes Two-Wheel

Green SM has launched its electric motorbike ride-hailing service in Jakarta, adding two-wheel transport to its electric mobility operations in Indonesia.

The September 16 rollout is Green SM’s first electric motorbike service outside its home market and complements its electric taxi business in Indonesia.

The company will use VinFast electric scooters, including the Evo and Feliz II, as it targets Jakarta’s large market for motorcycle-based transport.

Passengers can book rides through the Green SM mobile app using its regular ride-hailing option or Green Now, which is designed for quicker bookings.

Green SM said the service will use trained drivers, transparent fares and new electric motorcycles as it competes in one of Southeast Asia’s busiest urban mobility markets.

The company is also offering several vehicle rental programs for prospective driver partners.

A rent-to-own plan starts at IDR 39,000 per day and gives drivers an opportunity to own their motorcycle after two years. Green SM said participants may earn up to IDR 160,000 per day under the program.

Drivers may alternatively choose rental contracts lasting three, six or 12 months. These require a deposit starting at IDR 150,000 and include guaranteed earnings of IDR 160,000 per day during the first two months, according to the company.

Performance incentives are also available.

Green SM said participating drivers may receive up to five free battery swaps daily through the V-Green battery-swapping network, which could help lower operating expenses compared with gasoline-powered motorcycles.

The company is supporting the launch with introductory passenger discounts from September 16 to 22.

First-time electric motorbike customers receive 75 percent off their first ride, capped at IDR 10,000. Subsequent rides during the promotional period receive a 25-percent discount of up to IDR 10,000.

Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, global chief executive officer of Green SM, said the Jakarta launch is part of the company’s international expansion and its plan to offer both electric cars and motorcycles.

“We aim to build a comprehensive fully electric mobility ecosystem encompassing both electric cars and electric motorbikes,” Hoang said.

Green SM is also extending its “Green Your Move, Refresh Your City” campaign in Indonesia in support of environmental programs under the country’s Ministry of Environment and Environmental Control Agency.

The company said it has completed about 850 million rides globally covering nearly six billion kilometers.

Green SM said those trips have helped avoid more than 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, based on its estimates.
