Half-Off, Full Speed
Students now enjoy 50% fare discounts on LRT-2 and MRT-3 via dedicated lanes
Starting this July, students commuting via LRT-2 and MRT-3 can now breeze through stations faster and cheaper, thanks to new dedicated student lanes and a 50% fare discount on both train lines.

This move follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to eliminate long queues and ensure smoother passenger flow. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that the priority is convenience: “Dapat hindi rin natin pahirapan ang pag-verify ng student discounts para walang pila at mabilis ang daloy ng mga student passengers para hindi sila ma-late sa kanilang eskwelahan.”

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier announced that student discounts on all three major rail lines—LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3—have increased from 20% to 50%, and will stay that way until 2028.

While LRT-2 and MRT-3 are now equipped with dedicated student access lanes to ensure faster verification and movement, LRT-1, operated by Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), will handle the surge in student passengers through queue management systems to minimize delays.
This initiative marks a major upgrade in commuting experience for students—one that offers savings and speed in a single tap.
