Patrol Goes Electric

BYD Cars Philippines has turned over eight Dolphin electric vehicles to the Muntinlupa City government for use as police patrol cars, adding battery-powered vehicles to the city’s law enforcement fleet.

All eight BYD Dolphins have been assigned to the Muntinlupa Police Station and will support Philippine National Police operations, including daily law enforcement duties and road patrols across the city.

The turnover supports Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon’s green technology program and the city’s longer-term investment in cleaner transport for public services.

“The acquisition of the BYD Dolphins is a part of the long-term investment in clean energy that Muntinlupa has already committed to,” Biazon said.

“With electric patrol cars, our police force can stay on the road longer without worry and gives them a more reliable way to serve our community.”

BYD Cars Philippines said electric vehicles could also reduce operating expenses compared with conventional internal combustion patrol cars because they require less maintenance and eliminate fuel costs.

The company said these savings could help keep more vehicles available for daily police work.

The turnover ceremony was attended by Biazon, BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca and BYD Alabang Dealer Principal William Chiongbian, together with members of the Muntinlupa police force and city officials.

“Muntinlupa’s decision to electrify its police fleet reflects the kind of forward-thinking leadership we hope to see in more local governments,” Palanca said.

He said BYD wants to work with local government units that are considering cleaner and more cost-efficient vehicles for public service fleets.

The Muntinlupa delivery adds to BYD Cars Philippines’ fleet partnerships with government agencies as local authorities consider electric vehicles for applications that require regular daily use.

BYD Cars Philippines is distributed in the country by Mobility Access Philippines Ventures Inc. under ACMobility, Ayala Corporation’s mobility solutions group.

The distributor said it currently oversees 81 dealerships across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Its Philippine lineup includes battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
