Toyota Motor Philippines clinched gold in the Asia Pacific Skills Contest, with Eduardo Lazo Jr. topping the Quality Control Team Leader category at Toyota Motor Thailand’s Ban Pho Plant in late August. He beat rivals from across the region in core tasks such as engine inspection, measurement and fitting checks, torque tightening, and color matching, underscoring the strength of Filipino talent on a global stage.

The ASPAC program sharpens the multi-skill capabilities of Line Team Members across Toyota affiliates. TMP fields competitors in Logistics, Maintenance, Painting, Press, Quality, and Welding, using the contest as a live benchmark for continuous improvement and workforce development.

Lazo brings 11 years of experience at TMP, reflecting how the company invests in people to meet and exceed international standards. This latest win is the company’s fourth ASPAC gold since it began joining in 2006, adding to a track record built on training, practice, and real-world manufacturing excellence.

Beyond competitions, TMP’s Santa Rosa manufacturing hub employs over 2,000 Filipinos in production lines, building models like the Vios, Innova, and Tamaraw to global quality levels.

In 2024, TMP expanded direct hires after a PHP 5.5-billion investment that included a new Conversion Factory dedicated to the Tamaraw. The impact reaches far past the plant through the Toyota Suppliers Club, which supports around 60,000 jobs among local OEM parts makers and body builders.
