GTA 6 preview hits Netflix after online leaks

San Francisco, United States | Rockstar Games has released a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix, giving fans their longest official look yet at Vice City after clips from the game leaked online.

The preview follows lead characters Jason and Lucia, a criminal pair often compared with American outlaws Bonnie and Clyde.

It opens with Jason escaping a drug bust with a red duffel bag as Lucia joins him. On-screen symbols also suggest players can make the two characters hold hands.

The footage moves through car chases, shootouts, strip clubs and rooftop meetings across Vice City, the game’s fictional version of Miami.

GTA 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November following several delays. Rockstar originally planned to introduce the game in late 2025.

Demand for the title is expected to be high. Its predecessor, GTA 5, arrived in 2013 and has sold more than 200 million copies. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has not disclosed the number of GTA 6 pre-orders.

Some Netflix users reported service outages when the preview appeared on Thursday. The video was also scheduled for release on YouTube later in the day.

Netflix and Rockstar previously worked together to offer older GTA titles through the streaming platform’s mobile gaming service.

The new footage arrived after GTA 6 clips began appearing online on 18 August. Rockstar described the leaks as “heartbreaking” and said it had not intended for players to see the game that way.

Take-Two has since secured court orders requiring Microsoft and Discord to provide information that could help identify the source. Two federal judges in New York approved the subpoena requests after the publisher claimed the leaked material reproduced copyrighted content.

The leaks have been linked to an account named Cyberleek. Its unidentified operator or operators claim they want to expose business practices within the gaming industry.

Take-Two has also drawn criticism from fans over its decision to release GTA 6 without physical copies. A more expensive version with additional content has also faced complaints.

Interest in the game has even reached the US military. A US Army unit reportedly offered eligible soldiers four days off to play GTA 6 if they extended their service by at least two years.

Military news outlet Task & Purpose reported that 20 of the 130 eligible soldiers accepted the offer.
